“Motu” means “Island” in the New Zealand indigenous language of Maori. They are a fiercely proud people with strong traditions and deep roots, music is an integral part of their community, not unlike the people of the Outer Banks.
Motu will provide group and individual music lessons for residents of the Outer Banks, including scholarships to less fortunate students. We will create opportunities for students to perform in various types of venues and offer workshops by highly accomplished artists. Music lessons include instrument, voice, songwriting, live audio, sound engineering, theory, live performance and music history.
We strive to provide a comprehensive and creative approach to music education by using sustainable business practices and long term, to have a center that has sought after instructors, programs and graduates.
Our Mission is to not only provide the Outer Banks with a comprehensive music foundation that engages musicians of all ages in the creating, playing and performing of music regardless of their socio-economic background. But to also create a collaborative culture where community outreach is a priority.
